Dunstable Gigs gains PA system from the council
news imageTuesday 14th April 2009

Dunstable Gigs, a non-profit company formed in 2006 by Amy Sinclair with the aim of providing local gigs by local bands, has just become the proud owner of a brand new PA system courtesy of YOF (Youth Opportunity Fund) at South Beds District Council.

"We had a meeting in 2007 with Emma Van Nieuwenburgh, the Arts Development Officer and she made us aware of the scheme. We applied for five thousand pounds and were awarded it last year."

They used some of the money towards their first gig at the Grove Theatre in August last year, but it was the purchase of the PA system that will really help them get things going. "Not only will it mean saving money that can go towards putting on bigger, better gigs, it also means we will be able to offer the opportunity of learning how sound works to local youths that decide they would like to come and work with us on an event."

Amy tells us that the council were, and have been, extremely helpful. "They give you the opportunity to use [the money] in a way you want that ultimately benefits the community. South Beds District Council as a whole are 100% behind us and it's nice to know that everyone wants the same thing out of this - a better, local music scene."
